The Gomel State Forestry Production Association is an association of state legal entities. The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus is the national governing body and founder of the association.
The Gomel State Forestry Production Association comprises 21 forestry institutions (forestry enterprises) as legal entities, which in turn consist of 178 forestry units, 684 forestry workshops, and 1,651 forest patrols. The association employs over 7,000 people. The state forest protection service employs over 3,000 people. The Gomel State Forestry Production Association oversees 80% of the region's forests.
Forestry management
should ensure:
- preservation and enhancement of the habitat-forming, water-protective, protective, sanitary-hygienic, health-improving, and other beneficial natural properties of forests in the interests of protecting human health and improving the environment;
- multi-purpose, scientifically substantiated, continuous, sustainable, and rational use of forests to meet the needs of economic sectors, legal entities, and individuals for timber, other forest products, and the natural beneficial properties of forests.
- production, improvement of forest species composition and quality, increasing their productivity, and conservation and protection of forests;
- rational use of forest lands;
- improving the efficiency of forest management based on a unified technical policy, utilizing scientific, technological, and best practices;
- preservation of the gene pool, biological, and landscape diversity of forests;
- preservation of historical, cultural, and natural heritage sites.
The Association was created to provide general management, overall control of activities, coordination of activities, and representation of the interests of its Members. The Association's primary objective is to ensure highly professional, high-quality forestry management aimed at fulfilling its core functions.
